We have at least 2 dev replies in this thread, yet no 'real' info as to whether we can get the textures or not. Can a dev PLEASE give us some info? |

Release information CCP, please?
Surely 86 pages is enough to give us an indication whether this is likely to become a reality, and a timeframe if that is the case. |

EXACTLY I'm just sad that CCP has given NO feedback on this for MONTHS They really need to say whether or not they'll do this- I fly that exact ship and I want it to look that nice CCP has given tons of feedback on this thread, it just drowns because we are yelling so loud! They said we should have it by the winter expansion.
Where did they say that? quote / source please...

2406 posts, vast majority in favour and yet no definitive word on whether this is going to happen, or even if it will happen.
Disgraceful CCP...
Let's spread the word amongst gaming websites about this threadnought , maybe that will get us a reply from CCP if their indecision gets a lot more exposure... |

New, higher res station textures...and not a single report of a computer melting...
No excuse now for not releasing new hi-res ship textures... |

I guess the voice of the playerbase is not important enough...
Won't give us high-res textures despite 127k views and 2k+ comments.
Gave us (and refused to remove) tooltips that nobody wanted.
Not bothered which department is now supposed to be tasked with this (art, delivery, etc etc etc). It should have been done by now. |

Can we please get Dev input into why this has not happened yet, and who is responsible within distribution (who do we have to email-bomb), for getting this to the players.
Back to the front page we go... |

Although I have +1 this a few times, I guess after a year and however many thousands of 'yes' votes and we still don't have it says to me one thing...
We ain't getting it.

CCP Darwin wrote:Elistea wrote:So... is this happening anytime in this century? There are a number of problems that must be solved to make this particular thing happen, more than you might think. While there's still nothing I can share about when you might see such a feature, we are working on overcoming the technical limitations that make it challenging to do in EVE, one by one.
If you look back, we have been told that you have the textures, and are ready to go but that the decision to replace the current textures with hi-res ones lies with the distribution department not art or technical.
So which is it? Is it ready to go and a delivery system is being looked at? Or are their technical limitations as you have said?
This has now been a thing for well over a year, with over a hundred thousand views and thousands of posts saying it is something the playerbase would want.
I would feel better if we were given some sort of timescale, a basic rundown of the 'technical limitations' to putting hires textures into our game, and regular updates (perhaps a % chart) , of these being solved.
Updates, yo!
But thank you for your input, its always good to hear from the devs on such subjects.

So which is it? Is it ready to go and a delivery system is being looked at? Or are their technical limitations as you have said? I'll quote my post from another thread in January. Additionally, I'll add that while we do have higher-resolution versions of many textures, we'll likely have to go through all of them to make sure the quality is good enough to release at high resolution before we could proceed with such a feature. I don't believe anyone has ever claimed that there are not art or technical issues to work through on this. CCP Darwin wrote:The main issues that would have to be resolved to deliver higher-res textures are:
- Additional client disk space and associated delivery bandwidth on both the client and host ends.
- Putting in place a scheme to allow some assets to be delivered optionally so that players who can't use the new feature don't bear the burden.
- Changes to game-engine texture management so that new, larger textures don't kill performance.
- Changes to our process for integrating art assets into the game to accommodate any new needs established by the changes to address (3)
All of this is a lot of work. ... That said, everyone on the team knows that there's a lot of player interest in increasing our raw texture resolution, and we continue to discuss what has to be done to make it happen....
Art panel have said exactly that...that the textures are ready to go and they are waiting on the delivery of the textures to the players. I understand there is a lot of work involved (well, to be honest, I don't personally understand the work involved, as it seems a 'simple' as replacing the textures with hires textures, as they already scale with zooming in and out), but what you are telling us seems contradictory to this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiKGaXuYxiU 36.00 onwards<-- fanfest 2014 art panel. |

If the ship skins were in the same resolution as the turrets (zoom in on the turrets and you will see what I mean), this would be AWESOME!!
The turrets on the ships are HUGELY more detailed than the ships themselves.
How come it is easy to do on turrets, but we are being told it is so much harder to do for ships / stations and other assets. I do not notice any pixelation even when zooming extreme using both mousebuttons to the turrets.
My main gripe is the lights on the ships look pixelated even at moderate zooming levels. If this was fixed it would go a hell of a long way towards making EVE look better.
So, if it can be done for turrets, it can be done for ships / stations, right? |

I noticed something today.
Deployed a mobile tractor unit next to my rattlesnake.
Now, in the past there hgas been mention that the size of objects and the associated textures means that the bigger the item, the crapper the texture is...
Yet, the mobile tractor unit is not that small (1/10th the size of the rattlesnake), but the textures are crisp and detailed. Yet the rattlesnake, at the same zoom level is blurry, pixelated and 1990's looking.
Please please please give the ships a sharper texture skin. The turrets have a detailed skin, the deployables do to, yet the ships are crappy :( |
